NAFDAC Warns Against Circulation of Fake Knowit Insulin Syringes, Cites Health Risks

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has issued a warning to Nigerians about the illegal circulation of substandard and falsified Knowit Insulin Syringe 40 IU 29g X 1/2.

In a statement on Monday, March 3, NAFDAC cautioned that the outdated 40 IU/ml insulin syringes, once used for animal insulins, are no longer registered and could pose severe health risks if used to administer modern 100 IU/ml human insulin. The agency warned that dosing errors from such syringes could be life-threatening for diabetic patients.

NAFDAC identified the falsified product, which falsely carries registration number 03-2933, with Chivic Limited listed as the distributor. The agency confirmed that the product’s license expired in 2019, making its circulation illegal.

Authorities have been directed to conduct surveillance and remove the fake syringes from circulation. NAFDAC urged healthcare providers and the public to source medical products only from licensed suppliers and verify their authenticity to avoid potential health risks.
