Supporters of Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, the lawmaker resenting Kogi Central Senatorial District, were dispersed by the Nigeria Police Force this morning, March 5, 2025, as they gathered at the National Assembly Complex to protest in her support. The protesters, who had gathered at the assembly gate around 8 am, were met with tear gas by police officers to prevent any potential unrest.
The protestors had assembled ahead of the Senate’s plenary session and the scheduled hearing of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions. This follows accusations made by Akpoti-Uduaghan during a live TV interview last Friday, where she alleged that Senate President Godswill Akpabio had attempted to make sexual advances toward her and had subsequently defamed her in the Senate. The matter has now been referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions for investigation.
