Football legend Rio Ferdinand has named Mo Salah as the current frontrunner for this year’s men’s Ballon d’Or, citing the Egyptian’s impressive form this season. Salah has netted 30 goals in 39 appearances for Liverpool, helping propel his team to the top of the Premier League and into the last 16 of the Champions League.
“Right now, at this moment in time, I don’t think there’s anyone else on the podium with him,” Ferdinand said during an appearance on TNT Sports this week.
Ferdinand’s comments came ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League match against Paris Saint-Germain, with the winner set to face either Aston Villa or Club Brugge in the quarter-finals. However, Ferdinand believes Salah could miss out on the prestigious individual award if Liverpool does not make a deep run in the Champions League.
He added: “The Champions League is crucial. As teams progress, key players start to shine, and that’s when Ballon d’Or contenders emerge. It comes down to moments in big games. You can include Salah, Dembele if PSG go far, Mbappe, Vinicius Junior, and Bellingham as well. Whoever maintains their level and performs in the semi-finals and final will likely win it. If Liverpool win the Champions League, Salah will undoubtedly play a major role.”
waoooo that’s good.
