After 11 years of divorce, a customary court in Rumuogba, Rivers State, has ordered Mrs. Kate Ngbor to stop using her former husband’s name immediately. According to Vanguard, her ex-husband, Chief Sam Ngbor, filed a suit (no: OCC/9/2021) requesting the court to prevent her from continuing to use his name.
The court granted the request after hearing arguments from both sides. The judgment, delivered by the court, stated that Mrs. Ngbor no longer has the right to bear the name “Ngbor” or “Sam-Ngbor,” unless she obtains express permission from her ex-husband.
As a result, the court ruled that Mrs. Ngbor must revert to her maiden name or choose a new name, excluding “Ngbor” or “Sam-Ngbor.” Additionally, she was prohibited from presenting herself as “Mrs. Kate Ngbor” or “Mrs. Kate Sam-Ngbor” in any capacity.
