Bella Adenuga-Disu, Executive Vice Chairman of Globacom and daughter of billionaire businessman Dr. Mike Adenuga, shared her personal experience with workplace bias on International Women’s Day, March 8, 2025. Reflecting on moments when she was overlooked, she emphasized the importance of women advocating for themselves at work and being firm and unapologetic in their approach.
She recalled walking into meetings where the greeting was, “Good morning, sirs,” with no acknowledgment of her presence, highlighting how women are sometimes made to feel invisible. Bella stressed that advocating for oneself doesn’t require aggression but rather confidence, politeness, and firmness in asserting one’s perspective.
She also spoke about the growing recognition among women that prioritizing their own growth and ambitions isn’t selfish, but essential for personal success. Bella encouraged women to take ownership of their time, ambitions, and leadership roles, and to speak with authority.
Her message for International Women’s Day was clear: It’s time to take action—not just for others, but for ourselves as well.
