Abia Head of Service Calls for Strict Enforcement of Public Service Rules

Concerned about the lax attitude of some government workers, Abia State Head of Service, Benson Ojeikere, has emphasized the need for strict adherence to Public Service Rules, financial regulations, and other relevant laws in government operations.

Speaking to Permanent Secretaries in Umuahia, Ojeikere attributed inefficiencies in the service to the failure of officials to enforce rules, especially when dealing with influential figures. He urged them to uphold discipline, adopt service-oriented measures, and restore the integrity of the public service.

To enhance efficiency, the administration has introduced mandatory weekly in-house training across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). Ojeikere also announced a government initiative to recognize and reward outstanding workers, including Permanent Secretaries, to promote transparency, accountability, and excellence.

Reiterating Governor Alex Otti’s zero-tolerance policy on corruption, he warned workers to avoid unethical practices that could tarnish the image of the public service.
