Activist Threatens Legal Action Against Anambra Governor Over Rising Insecurity

Political activist and Head Mission of Leadership & Accountability Initiative, Hon. Nwazuluahu Henry Shield, has strongly criticized the escalating insecurity in Anambra State, threatening to take legal action against Governor Prof. Chukwuma Charles Soludo for failing to protect the state’s residents.

Anambra has seen a disturbing increase in killings and kidnappings. Notable incidents include the October attack in Nibo, Awka South, where at least ten people were killed during the Onwa Asaa festival, and the tragic death of Nonso, one of three brothers killed in cult-related violence in Awka.

In another attack, heavily armed gunmen targeted security personnel in Abatete, Idemili North, leaving five dead, including the President-General of the community.

Hon. Henry Shield, in a letter dated January 15, 2025, has requested information from the Anambra State Commissioner for Finance regarding security vote allocations from March 2022 to date, citing the lack of security and the governor’s failure to address the issue. He warned of legal action if the government fails to respond within the stipulated timeframe, stating that Governor Soludo has failed in his constitutional responsibility to ensure the security and welfare of the people.
