Ekaette Akpabio, the wife of Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has filed multiple legal actions against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, following her recent defamatory comments.
During an interview on Arise TV last Friday, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused the Senate President of making sexual advances toward her at both his office and residence in Akwa Ibom. In response, Ekaette Akpabio firmly denied the allegations, defending her husband’s character and labeling the senator’s claims as “lies.”
In a fundamental rights lawsuit filed at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Ekaette stated that the “scandalous and salacious” remarks made by Akpoti-Uduaghan have caused significant emotional and psychological harm to her and her children. She is requesting the court to restrain Akpoti-Uduaghan from making any further defamatory statements that infringe on her fundamental human rights.
The suit demands N250 billion in exemplary, punitive, and general damages for the alleged violation of her rights. Ekaette claims the comments have severely damaged her family’s reputation and called for Akpoti-Uduaghan to issue a public apology, to be published in two national newspapers.
Additionally, the legal action seeks N1 billion in punitive damages for the damage caused to the Akpabio family’s reputation and demands a perpetual injunction to prevent further defamatory statements from the senator.
As of now, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has not commented on the allegations, and efforts by The Cable to contact his media aides have been unsuccessful.
