The Chairman of Nsit Atai Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Anthony Nyong, said he has commenced the construction of a two-bedroom bungalow for the vulnerable in his hometown, Ndon Ikot Itieudung, as a tribute to the life and legacy of Akwa Ibom State’s late First Lady, Pastor Patience Eno
The late first lady who died in September will be laid to rest in the governor’s hometown in Nsit-Ubuim Local Government Area of the state on Friday, November 29.
The compassionate home gesture is aimed at immortalising the late First Lady’s legacy of service to humanity, as she was known to have constructed several such homes before her untimely death.
Speaking in an interview with newsmen in Uyo, the state capital, on Saturday after a condolence visit to Governor Umo Eno by the Association of Local Government of Nigeria, at Government House Uyo, Nyong described the late First Lady as a symbol of compassion, humility, and unwavering commitment to uplifting the less privileged.
“She was a woman who touched countless lives with her kindness and prayers, leaving an indelible mark of service and love,” he said.
The council chairman emphasised that the bungalow would serve as a lasting memorial to her dedication to improving the lives of the vulnerable.
He called on others to emulate her example by championing initiatives that promote humanity’s welfare, ensuring her memory continues to inspire good works across the state and beyond.
“This is not just a house; it is a symbol of hope and love that will continue to uplift the vulnerable, just as the late First Lady envisioned. Through this project, her legacy lives on,” the chairman said.
Highlighting her role as First Lady, Nyong painted a picture of a selfless and devout woman who served both God and her people with unrelenting zeal.
“She was not just a ceremonial figure; she worked tirelessly behind the scenes to champion the welfare of women, children, and the underprivileged in Akwa Ibom State,” he remarked.
He further described her as a spiritual force within the administration, whose fervent prayers and wise counsel shaped many lives and policies.
“Her faith and compassion made her a comforting presence to everyone who sought her guidance. Her legacy of grace and service will forever inspire us,” he added.
Our correspondent reports that as preparations intensify for the burial of the late First Lady scheduled for Friday, November 29, the Akwa Ibom Government House has become a hub of condolence visits from Nigerians across all walks of life.
Governors, captains of industries, religious leaders, and citizens have gathered to express solidarity with Governor Umo Eno and his family during this time of grief.
