Anambra Police Successfully Rescue Three Kidnapped Victims

                     Police apprehends 8 secondary school students for cultism in Ifo

The Anambra State Police Command has successfully rescued three unidentified individuals who were kidnapped by gunmen along the Onitsha-Owerri Expressway in Ozubulu, Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the police spokesperson, Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed that the victims were freed around 7:20 a.m. that day. According to reports, the victims were abducted on Friday evening along the Nsugbe-Nneyi, Umuleri area in Anambra State. A video circulating on social media showed the kidnappers shooting one of the victims in the foot to demonstrate their seriousness and pressure their families for ransom.

Ikenga explained that a joint security team carried out a coordinated operation on Saturday, leading to the rescue of the three victims. Security checkpoints across the state were alerted following the report of the abduction in Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Oyi Local Government Area, to assist in the rescue and apprehension of the criminals.

The police commissioner, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has urged the operatives to intensify their efforts to arrest the suspects and assured the public of the police’s continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

Ikenga further stated, “On March 22, 2025, at 7:20 a.m., the joint security team successfully rescued three kidnapping victims along the Onitsha/Owerri Express Road in Ozubulu. The victims, who had sustained various injuries from the criminals, were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. They are currently recovering and will soon be interviewed by the police.”

The commissioner reiterated the commitment to relentless action against criminals in the state, promising to keep up the pressure to prevent further criminal activities.
