The Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government and former chairmanship aspirant, Mr. Oluwagbenga Abiola, has endorsed his party’s decision to field Abdulganiyu Obasa, son of Lagos Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, as the APC candidate for the July 12 council election.
Abiola, a close ally and political mentee of Speaker Obasa, expressed full support for the party’s direction during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday in Lagos.
He dismissed claims that he was pressured to step down and instead thanked Speaker Obasa for playing a key role in his political rise, from being appointed Special Assistant on Media in 2015 to becoming the youngest Sole Administrator in Lagos State, and later serving as Secretary and now Vice Chairman of Agege LG.
“Why would I oppose a man who built me politically and gave me opportunities to grow?” Abiola said.
Though he admitted having aspirations to become Chairman, he emphasized the importance of unity and loyalty to the party and its leadership. “Yes, I aspired, but the party has spoken. I support the Speaker and our leaders. I stand by their decision,” he said.
Abiola also noted that his main goal remains to serve the people, adding that he believes there will be more opportunities in the future. He has directed members of his support group, the Obasa Youth Alliance, to back the party’s candidate fully.
