The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has announced that the Anambra governorship primary election will take place on Saturday, April 5, 2025. The party also released detailed guidelines to ensure the smooth conduct of the election.
A statement issued on Friday by Ifeanyi Mbaeri, the National Organizing Secretary and Secretary of the Electoral Committee 2025, confirmed that the primary election will be held at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital.
Mbaeri further stated that a five-member electoral committee, led by APGA’s Deputy National Chairman (South), Chief Uche Nwegbo, has been formed to oversee the election process.
The statement outlined the following procedures for the primary election:
-
The election will begin promptly at 8:00 AM with the accreditation of delegates and observers. This process will take place outside the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, along the tarred road leading to the New Government House, and will run until noon. Only those in the accreditation queue before 12:00 PM will be accredited.
-
Only accredited delegates and observers will be allowed to enter the venue. Non-delegates and non-observers are prohibited from approaching the primary election site.
-
All delegates and observers must present a valid form of identification, such as a National ID card, international passport, voter’s card, or any government-issued ID. Accredited delegates and observers must wear their tags visibly at all times during the election.
-
Delegates will be seated according to their respective Local Government Areas (LGAs) at designated stands in the pavilion, which will be clearly marked. Elected officials, such as National Assembly members, state House members, mayors, and councillors, must sit with their LGA delegates at their assigned stands.
-
Voting will take place by balloting, with delegates marking either ‘YES’ or ‘NO’ on the ballot paper. Voting will be conducted in alphabetical order, by LGA.
-
After voting, the ballots will be sorted, counted, and results will be declared by the Electoral Committee.
The APGA has emphasized that the election will be conducted in strict compliance with the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria, the Electoral Act 2022, and the INEC Guidelines for Political Party Primaries. All delegates and observers are required to adhere to the provided guidelines and modalities.
