Arsenal secured a dominant 5-1 aggregate win over Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, finishing the second leg with a 2-1 victory on Wednesday night at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Having carried a 3-0 advantage from the first leg, the Gunners maintained control despite an early scare, including a missed penalty by Bukayo Saka in the 13th minute.
The first half ended goalless, with both teams showing intensity and picking up early yellow cards—David Alaba (4’), Raul Asensio (11’), and Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya (36’) all going into the referee’s book.
Saka redeemed himself in the 65th minute, opening the scoring with a calm finish assisted by Mikel Merino. Real Madrid responded swiftly, equalizing just two minutes later through Vinícius Júnior.
With the tie seemingly heading for a draw, Arsenal struck again in stoppage time. Gabriel Martinelli found the net in the 90+3 minute, converting another assist from Merino to seal the win and cap off a memorable night for the Spanish midfielder.
Late yellow cards were shown to Antonio Rüdiger and Thomas Partey in the 85th minute, as tensions flared in the closing stages.
The result sends Arsenal into the Champions League semi-finals with momentum and confidence.
