Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has denied claims that he received money from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for his 2023 presidential campaign. This statement was issued by Atiku’s Media Office in Abuja on Thursday.
Paul Ibe, Atiku’s Media Aide, refuted reports circulating that Sanwo-Olu had given money to Atiku for his 2023 campaign. Atiku was the presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections.
In the statement, Ibe dismissed the allegations as false and described them as “kindergarten propaganda.” The reports had claimed that Sanwo-Olu made money, allegedly from Lagos State, available to Atiku. Furthermore, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was reportedly investigating the matter.
Ibe strongly rejected the claims, calling them “a blatant lie from the pit of hell,” “contrived political hogwash,” and “a futile campaign of calumny” aimed at tarnishing Atiku’s reputation for political gain. He emphasized that Atiku did not know Sanwo-Olu and had never met him.
“How could Atiku, who has no connection to Sanwo-Olu, possibly have a financial transaction with him—especially during the 2023 presidential election, in which Atiku was a candidate?” Ibe questioned.
He further called on the EFCC to publicly disclose the outcome of its alleged investigation and urged a stop to the “misadventure” and campaign of defamation against Atiku’s character.
