Bandit leader Bello Turji fights back, imposes N22m levy on Sokoto deputy governor

Notorious bandit leader Bello Turji has reportedly levied four villages in Sokoto State ₦22 million following the death of one of his men during a military operation.

The affected villages include Garin Idi, the hometown of Deputy Governor Idris Gobir.

Turji, who has relocated to the eastern part of Isa Local Government Area, initially demanded ₦25 million but reduced it after negotiations.

Lawmaker Aminu Boza criticized the military’s inconsistent operations in the region, noting that villagers often suffer retaliatory attacks from bandits.

Additionally, Turji has demanded ₦250,000 from each family of 13 abducted worshippers, releasing five captives after payments were made.
