Katsina Govt Confirms Qur’anic Recitation Champion, Family Still Alive Amid Kidnapping Crisis

The Katsina State Government has confirmed that Abdulsalam Rabiu-Faskari, the winner of the National Qur’anic Recitation Competition, along with his father and brother, remains alive but is still being held by his abductors.

In a statement on Friday, March 14, Commissioner for Information and Culture, Dr. Bala Salisu-Zango, debunked reports suggesting that Rabiu-Faskari had been killed, clarifying that the victims are alive and in good health while in captivity.

Rabiu-Faskari and his family were kidnapped two days ago while traveling from Katsina to Faskari after being honored by Governor Dikko Radda for his outstanding performance in the Qur’anic recitation competition in Kebbi. He is set to represent Nigeria at an international competition.

According to the latest information, the kidnappers have demanded a ransom of N30 million. Governor Radda has condemned the abduction, reaffirmed his support for the victims, and assured the public that security agencies are working tirelessly to ensure their safe release. He also urged residents to pray for their safe return as the government continues efforts to tackle insecurity in the state.
