The Benue State Police Command has confirmed the release of three female students who were abducted from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi, on February 25, while returning from a night study session. Their release was announced on Thursday, March 6, in a statement by the police spokesperson, CSP Anene Catherine.
According to the statement, on February 26, 2025, at approximately 9:34 PM, police received information that students had been kidnapped within the university grounds by unknown assailants. A swift police response led to an investigation, which revealed that the three female students were held hostage by their kidnappers.
On March 3, 2025, after a continuous pursuit of the kidnappers, the victims were freed at 9:34 PM and are currently receiving medical treatment at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital in Makurdi.
While the investigation is still ongoing, the Commissioner of Police, CP Steve H. Yabanet, praised the efforts of all involved in the operation, particularly the IGP Intelligence Response Team from Abuja and other local security agencies. He also assured the public of his commitment to apprehending those responsible for this crime.
