Suspected Boko Haram terrorists attacked the Malari Police Station in Borno State early on Wednesday, but the assailants were successfully repelled by a combined force of police officers and soldiers.
Local security sources confirmed that the attack, which took place at about 1:00 am, was thwarted after a fierce gun battle. ASP Nahum Daso, spokesperson for the Borno State Police Command, confirmed that the insurgents attempted to infiltrate the station but retreated when security forces overpowered them.
“No casualties were recorded on our side, and we managed to repel the attackers,” Daso said. He added that the insurgents targeted a police Armoured Personnel Carrier, damaging its tires but failing to destroy it.
Daso further stated that while no bodies had been recovered, it was likely the insurgents suffered casualties. He assured the public of the police’s readiness to prevent future attacks.
Despite the victory, some local residents expressed concerns over the possibility of the insurgents regrouping and targeting civilians. “We are scared they may return. We appreciate the efforts of our security forces and urge them to strengthen security measures,” a local source shared.
Commissioner of Police Yusufu Lawal commended the officers for their resilience and extended condolences to the families of any fallen officers.
