The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Egypt as the host for the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. The announcement was made in a statement on Thursday evening.
Originally, Cote d’Ivoire was set to host the tournament from April 26 to May 18, but the country withdrew a month before the event due to “unforeseen circumstances,” according to CAF.
The statement read: “CAF has awarded the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and the Egyptian Government the rights to host the 2025 TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations. This follows the notification from the Ivorian Football Federation (FIF) and the Government of Cote d’Ivoire, who informed CAF that they are unable to host the tournament due to unforeseen circumstances.”
Egypt, which hosted the previous edition of the competition, will take on hosting duties once again. The tournament will now begin on April 27, 2025.
The Flying Eagles have been placed in Group B, where they will face Egypt, Morocco, and South Africa. The top two teams from each group will advance to the knockout stage, with the best two third-placed teams also securing quarter-final spots. The semi-finalists will automatically qualify for the 2025 U-20 World Cup in Chile.
