Justice Obiora Egwatu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has adjourned the case filed by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, to March 25, 2025. The senator is seeking a court order to prevent the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges from investigating her.
Last week, the court granted a restraining order, but on March 7, the Senate suspended Senator Natasha for six months after considering the committee’s report. During Monday’s hearing, lawyers for the defendants claimed they hadn’t been served the necessary documents. However, Natasha’s lawyer, Michael Numa (SAN), presented affidavits confirming service of documents to all parties, which Justice Egwatu reviewed and confirmed as accurate.
Following this, Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s lawyer, Kehinde Ogunwumiju, requested an adjournment to allow for the harmonization of all legal processes, which was granted by the court. The matter has been adjourned to March 25, 2025, with a directive for all necessary documents to be served before the next hearing.
After the proceedings, Senate Deputy Chief Whip Peter Nwaebonyi highlighted the importance of proper legal procedures, emphasizing that the Senate was following the court’s directive while maintaining its responsibility as a law-abiding institution.
