Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has commended the Department of State Services (DSS) for a successful operation that led to the capture of five high-profile kidnappers hiding in forests across the state.
The arrests took place on Wednesday, March 12, after DSS operatives tracked the suspects to two separate hideouts in Enugu State, acting on credible intelligence. The arrested individuals are believed to be members of a notorious kidnapping syndicate responsible for terrorizing Udi Local Government Area and other regions of the state.
The suspects reportedly confessed to extorting large ransoms from their victims’ families. During the operation, security forces seized significant amounts of money, suspected to be ransom proceeds, along with deadly weapons and other dangerous items from the kidnappers’ hideouts.
Governor Mbah expressed his approval of the DSS’s efforts and the successful collaboration among various security agencies, including the military, police, and Enugu State Forest Guards. He assured the public that operations will continue to target the remaining gang members and dismantle their criminal activities in the forests.
Furthermore, on Friday, March 14, three more key members of a separate kidnapping syndicate were apprehended in Enugu, further bolstering the state’s ongoing fight against crime.
