The Association of Resident Doctors at the David Umahi Federal University Teaching Hospital (DUFUTH) in Uburu, Ebonyi State, has threatened to suspend services if the ongoing tension at the hospital continues.

According to PUNCH Online, the unrest at the hospital has been ongoing since last week, following protests from its host community against the hospital’s management.

The decision was made during an emergency meeting on Sunday, and a communiqué signed by the association’s President, Dr. Peace Ebisike, and Secretary, Mathew Nwachukwu, was shared with journalists.

The communiqué stated, “We are concerned about the negative impact of the recent unrest on our members and the quality of service delivery to patients. We regret that the situation has hindered effective patient management, which defeats the purpose of establishing DUFUTH.”

The association called on relevant authorities and stakeholders to resolve the issues peacefully and restore calm to the hospital as soon as possible. The doctors also reiterated their support for the hospital’s management, led by Professor Uzoma Agwu, in their efforts to ensure the hospital’s progress.
