Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has returned to work at the club’s training centre after recovering from pneumonia, the Premier League side confirmed on Thursday.
The 47-year-old was hospitalised earlier this month, forcing him to miss matches against Manchester United, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa.
“Newcastle United are delighted to confirm that Eddie Howe has returned to his duties at the club’s training centre,” the club announced. “Eddie had recently been hospitalised with pneumonia and has now returned to work after a period of recovery. We thank supporters for their warm wishes.”
During Howe’s absence, assistant manager Jason Tindall took charge. Under his leadership, Newcastle recorded strong wins over Manchester United and Crystal Palace but suffered a heavy defeat to Aston Villa.
Currently sitting fifth in the Premier League and fresh off their League Cup triumph, Newcastle are set to face relegation-threatened Ipswich on Saturday. With Champions League qualification up for grabs, the Magpies are looking to build momentum heading into the final stretch of the season.
Liverpool remain in pole position for the league title, while Arsenal are favourites to finish second. Just four points separate third-placed Manchester City from seventh-placed Aston Villa in a tightly contested top-seven race.
