Police operatives in Edo State have rescued the pregnant wife and sister of Friday Pius, who was shot and killed by suspected herdsmen in Uluoke community, Etsako West Local Government Area.
According to a statement released on Sunday, April 20, by the state police spokesperson, CSP Moses Joel Yamu, the two women were rescued during an operation carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit in Edo North, working alongside local vigilantes and hunters.
The victims, 32-year-old Esther Friday and 23-year-old Joy Iregbeyen, were kidnapped on April 14 after the attackers fatally shot Esther’s husband, Friday Pius. He was rushed to the hospital but later confirmed dead.
Yamu said the rescue took place on April 18 around 9:15 p.m. after security teams launched a coordinated manhunt. The kidnappers, under pressure from the advancing team, abandoned the women and fled.
During the rescue, one of the women was shot in the foot by the kidnappers out of frustration, but she is currently receiving medical treatment and is in stable condition.
