Egypt Rejects US Proposal To Displace Palestinians, Calls For Arab Unity

Egypt rejects proposals to displace Palestinians

Egypt has officially rejected proposals to displace Palestinian people, warning that such a move would threaten both the Palestinian cause and the national security of countries in the region. The statement, issued by the Egyptian presidency on Tuesday, February 25, comes in response to U.S. President Donald Trump’s controversial plan to permanently remove over 2 million Palestinians from Gaza and turn the area into an international beach resort under U.S. control.

In light of the proposal, Egypt has announced it will host an emergency Arab League summit on March 4, aimed at formulating a collective Arab response to the plan. The summit will focus on efforts to counter Trump’s proposal and address calls for Egypt and Jordan to resettle displaced Palestinians from Gaza. Both Egypt and Jordan have rejected these calls, citing concerns over their national security.

The Palestinian people fear a repetition of the 1948 catastrophe, known as the Nakba, when hundreds of thousands of Palestinians were displaced during the creation of Israel.
