A 28-year-old man was tragically electrocuted on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, in Eruwa, Ibarapa Local Government Area of Oyo State.

According to the General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Service, Yemi Akinyinka, the incident occurred while the victim, an electrician, was attempting to fix a fault on the 33KV high-tension cables in the Odi Babaode area—without shutting down the power supply.

“The victim was electrocuted while working on the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company’s active power lines,” Akinyinka confirmed.

The Fire Service responded to a distress call made at 3:29 p.m. by one Adelanre Adeyinka. A rescue team led by Peluola Babatunde arrived at the scene, but the victim had already succumbed to the electric shock.

The remains have been handed over to officers from the Eruwa Police Station.

Akinyinka emphasized the dangers of handling live electrical equipment without proper training: “Life has no duplicate. Only trained engineers or technicians should handle active electrical systems.”
