The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has ordered the immediate deployment of additional personnel and resources to Rivers State.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the move is aimed at enhancing security, safeguarding lives and property, and securing critical infrastructure within the state.
The statement noted that the deployed operatives will work closely with the Armed Forces and other security agencies to prevent any breakdown of law and order in the South-South state.
Egbetokun reassured citizens that while they have the right to seek legal redress, any unlawful gatherings, protests, or activities that disrupt public peace will be met with the full force of the law.
“The Nigeria Police Force emphasizes that aggrieved individuals have the right to pursue legal action through the appropriate judicial channels. However, any attempt to exploit the situation through unlawful gatherings, protests, or activities that threaten public peace will be met with the full force of the law. Citizens are urged to remain law-abiding, adhere to legal directives, and continue their daily activities without fear,” the statement read.
The Force reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and stability, urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could threaten public safety.
“Individuals or groups with criminal intentions are hereby warned to stay away from Rivers State. Security forces are fully prepared to take decisive action against any threats to the peace and stability of the state,” the statement added.
