Maharazu Tsiga, the former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been freed after spending 22 days in captivity. A source confirmed his release to Channels Television on Friday night, revealing that Tsiga is now receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.
Tsiga had been abducted on February 6, 2025, from his residence in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, by a group of bandits led by notorious criminal kingpin Babaro. The gunmen had reportedly demanded a ransom of N250 million for his release, although it remains unclear if any payment was made.
The Katsina State Police Command, along with government officials and security agencies, have yet to comment on Tsiga’s release. During the abduction, two individuals sustained various injuries, and one of the attackers was accidentally shot and killed by a member of his own gang.
