The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the temporary closure of Runway 18R/36L at Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, for additional rehabilitation work.
The closure, scheduled for March 3 and 4, 2025, comes just two weeks after the runway was reopened following an almost 11-month maintenance shutdown. FAAN cited ongoing asphalt work at the A2 Taxiway-link and potential hazards posed by construction equipment as reasons for the temporary shutdown.
During the closure, the alternative Runway 18L/36R will remain operational. FAAN has advised technical departments to conduct regular inspections and enhance security measures during the period.
This marks the latest phase in FAAN’s efforts to maintain and upgrade airport infrastructure, following a previous extended closure of the runway in 2023 that disrupted airline operations.
