A family holiday ended in heartbreak after a seven-year-old boy drowned at a campsite in East Gippsland, Victoria.
According to 7 News, emergency services were called to a site off Angusvale Track in Cobbannah, east of Melbourne, just before midday on Friday after the child was reported missing.
After an extensive search, the boy was tragically found deceased in the river around 2:50 pm, approximately three hours after he was last seen.
“The boy was located deceased in the water about 2.50 pm,” Victoria Police confirmed. Authorities have not disclosed how far downstream the child may have been swept.
An investigation into the incident is underway, with a report to be prepared for the coroner.
This tragedy comes just a day after another devastating incident in Victoria, where a three-year-old boy lost his life in a caravan fire.
The toddler, from the Greater Bendigo area, was found inside a burning caravan on Lake View Street in Boort, north-central Victoria, on Thursday evening.
Emergency services responded to the fire shortly before 6 pm, but the child could not be saved.
The two incidents have left communities reeling, as families mourn the loss of two young lives during what should have been joyful moments.
So sad
