The Niger State Police Command has taken a 26-year-old agricultural worker, Umar Mohammed, into custody for allegedly sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl in the Mariga Local Government Area 1. According to SP Wasiu Abiodun, spokesperson for the command, Mohammed was arrested on January 26, 2025, after a complaint was filed at the Bangi Division.
It’s reported that the young victim had been sent to a nearby store but returned late, visibly distraught. Mohammed allegedly approached the child on her way back, took her to a nearby secluded area, and committed the offense.
The victim received medical attention at the General Hospital in Bangi, while Mohammed was detained for questioning. He has since confessed to the crime and been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation and prosecution.
