To enhance healthcare delivery in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), FCT Minister Nyesom Wike has approved the hiring of 34 resident doctors. These doctors are the first group of 60 medical residency trainees in eight different specialties across FCTA hospitals.
This approval is a significant step in expanding medical recruitment beyond the Health Management Board’s staff, creating more opportunities for doctors and improving the quality of healthcare services in the FCT.
Lere Olayinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media, shared the news in a statement on Wednesday. He explained that the initiative would bring in more skilled medical professionals to enhance healthcare services.
The 34 newly employed doctors will work across several departments, including psychiatry (5), internal medicine (4), general surgery (1), anesthesiology (1), family medicine (8), ophthalmology (6), and obstetrics and gynecology (9).
Olayinka also announced that the FCTA Civil Service Commission will soon begin recruiting the remaining 26 resident doctors, including specialists in psychiatry, internal medicine, general surgery, anesthesiology, and pediatrics.
This employment initiative is part of the FCT administration’s broader plan to improve the healthcare system by ensuring that skilled medical professionals are available across various specialties.
