The Federal Government has approved the disbursement of N32.8 billion from the Basic Health Care Provision Fund (BHCPF) to support primary healthcare programmes in the first quarter of the 2025 fiscal year. The funds will be allocated through key health agencies, including the National Health Insurance Authority, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), and the National Emergency Medical Services and Ambulance System.
Speaking at the 10th BHCPF Ministerial Oversight Committee meeting, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Pate, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services. He emphasized that the funds will enhance primary healthcare, support the Vulnerable Groups Fund, improve emergency medical treatment, and boost the NCDC’s disease outbreak response efforts.
Pate also noted that new governance guidelines for the BHCPF have been approved, ensuring equitable distribution of resources to healthcare centres across Nigeria. He highlighted ongoing efforts to remove bureaucratic bottlenecks preventing efficient fund utilization, assuring that the Accountant General’s office is working to resolve issues affecting fund access at the state level.
With this funding, the government aims to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide, ensuring that BHCPF-backed facilities continue to operate at higher efficiency levels compared to non-BHCPF centres.
