The Federal Government revealed it generated approximately N2.4 billion in 2024 through marriage contracts processed by the Ministry of Interior’s marriage registry.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, during a press conference in Abuja on January 28.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo also highlighted that the ministry earned over N3.2 billion from expatriate quota applications, marking a 150 percent increase in overall revenue for the year.
In addition, the Minister announced that the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) repatriated 828 foreigners to their respective countries in 2024. Although their specific offences were not disclosed, he noted that the repatriation was part of the ministry’s broader mandate.
