Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, former governor of Oyo State, renowned mathematician, engineer, and technocrat, has passed away just days before his 90th birthday. The news was confirmed in a statement by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi, who expressed the family’s deep grief while honoring Olunloyo’s remarkable life of service.
“With heavy hearts but with gratitude to the Almighty, we announce the passing into glory of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo,” the statement said.
Olunloyo, who held the prestigious chieftaincy titles of Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, was widely respected for his contributions to both academia and public service. He served as the first Rector of both Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic, among other significant roles in his career.
“The Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife, Dr. Olunloyo, was the first Rector of both Ibadan Polytechnic and Kwara State Polytechnic,” the statement noted, highlighting his long legacy of service.
The family expressed pride in his life of service, despite the painful loss. They requested privacy during this mourning period. “The Olunloyo family kindly asks for the public’s understanding as they make arrangements for a dignified burial,” the statement concluded.
