Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has accused the former Head of Service (HoS) of the state, Dr. George Nweke, of being compromised and forced to spread lies about him.
In a statement he personally signed, Fubara was responding to allegations made by Nweke during a press conference in Abuja on Friday, March 28. Fubara dismissed as ridiculous Nweke’s claim that he was aware of Fubara’s supposed plans to support Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid. He also rejected Nweke’s accusation that he was involved in meetings to orchestrate attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in the state.
Fubara’s statement reads in part:
“My attention has been drawn to a press briefing by the former Head of Service, Dr. George Nweke, aired on Channels Television on Friday, March 28, 2025. Ordinarily, I would not have responded to his claims, but I must correct the false impression such allegations could create.
First, Dr. Nweke’s claim that he was aware of my discussions and plans to support Bala Mohammed’s alleged 2027 presidential bid is laughable. It is absurd to think that Dr. Nweke, as Head of Service, would be part of any high-level political meetings or sit in on my supposed secret night meetings with Bala Mohammed and militants. The truth is, there were no such meetings.
Everyone knew when Governor Bala Mohammed, as Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, visited the state, and there was nothing secret about it.
It is also absurd for Dr. Nweke to claim he was aware of my involvement in meetings encouraging attacks on oil pipelines and other national assets in the state. At no point did I meet with militants or any criminal groups to destabilize the state. In fact, I have always been a strong advocate for peace, even in the face of provocations.
The reality is that Dr. Nweke has been compromised, and his statements are a desperate attempt to fulfill promises made to those who may have paid or coerced him to lie about me.
I urge all well-meaning Nigerians and the good people of Rivers State to ignore Nweke’s statements as they are nothing but attempts to discredit me, my administration, and the peace process initiated by Mr. President.”
