Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has assured widows of fallen soldiers who served in various theatres of conflict around the world that his government will continue to stand by them in prayers and support.
Gov. Eno gave the assurance during the Nigerian Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration held at Cenotaph, Uyo, the state capital, on Wednesday.
The governor recalled the Okuama incident in Delta State, where some Nigerian soldiers, fired by patriotic zeal, went to restore peace to the troubled communities but ended up paying the supreme price for the nation.
Eno said, “We in Akwa Ibom will continue to celebrate and honour their sacrifices. Last year, I announced a donation of N100 million to assist the widows in dealing with the pain associated with the loss of their husbands and breadwinners. We will continue to intentionally do all we can to assist them as well as the Nigerian Legionnaire.
He thanked the Nigerian security services again for working collaboratively with him to ensure there is peace in the state.
