Governor Oborevwori Defects To APC

Delta Governor Sheriff Oborevwori officially dumps PDP for APC

In a significant political development, Delta State Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has officially defected from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), signaling a major shift in the state’s political dynamics.

According to Arise TV, the move was confirmed on Wednesday evening following a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba. Speaking by phone, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, explained that the decision came after “extensive consultations with political stakeholders and was made in the best interest of Delta’s long-term development.”

Governor Oborevwori, who secured victory in the 2023 gubernatorial election under the PDP banner, was welcomed into the APC by top party officials—an event seen as a major gain for the ruling party. Political observers have characterized the defection as a strategic realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections, with potential implications for the broader South-South political landscape.
