Gunmen kill over 15 in Benue community

A devastating attack on Anyiin town in Logo Local Government Area (LGA) Benue state, has left over 15 people dead and many injured.
The assault, which Blueprint gathered was carried out by heavily armed Fulani militia, began around 6:32 pm on Wednesday, October 30, 2024.
Retired primary school supervisor Mr. Orihundu Ati and sons of prominent community leaders were among the victims.
The attackers, which were said to have numbered over 200, used sophisticated weapons, including AK47s, and overwhelmed local security forces.
This is the second attack in one month, following a similar incident in Ayilamo town on October 9, 2024.
The repeated violence has displaced residents, with many seeking refuge in nearby towns.
Local leaders are calling for increased security measures, including completing the abandoned Mobile Police Barracks project, to protect the community.
A residence of the Area Mr. Joseph Anawah who spoke to newsmen, said the terrorists took residents unawares, surrounded the town and shot sporadically in the air as the people scampered for safety.
According to him, the security operatives stationed in the town were overwhelmed because of the invaders’ large number.
He called on the federal and state governments to collaborate and revisit the abandoned Mobile Police Barracks project near Anyiin along Akwana-Anyiin-Wukari road inorder to provide maximum security in the flash point.
“Representatives of the affected communities at state and national levels should also raise to the occasion and beef up security in Gaambe-Tiev communities so that farmers can go to their farms during this harvesting season.
When contacted the Police zpokesperson Benue Command SP Catherine Sewuese Anene said, “the attack in Anyiin is confirmed but no details at the moment.
“More information will be communicated to you as I receive it please.”
