Nigerian music star Davido has shared a powerful story from his early days, revealing how far he went to chase his dream.
Living alone with his father in a massive 16-bedroom mansion, Davido secretly built a studio within the house. His mother had passed, his siblings were abroad, and with his father often away, Davido poured himself into music — and quietly, into smoking — all while keeping it hidden.
Eventually, the pressure of living a double life became too much. Davido fled to London, crashing with a producer friend and staying off the radar for six months. Back in Nigeria, panic set in. His family launched a full search, involving both the army and immigration officers.
When he returned to Nigeria, Davido had no plans of going home. But as soon as he landed at the airport, an army officer approached and escorted him out — where his father and uniformed men were waiting.
“I was scared,” Davido admitted. “I thought I was in trouble.”
But instead of anger, his father embraced him. “He was just happy I was okay,” Davido recalled. That moment gave him the strength to confess: he didn’t want school — he wanted music.
