Former Governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, has refuted claims that he accused his successor, Governor Alex Otti, of taking credit for projects initiated during his tenure.

In a statement released Friday by his spokesperson, Onyebuchi Ememanka, Ikpeazu clarified that he has not made any public remarks about the current Abia administration since leaving office. He described the reports circulating on social media—particularly headlines like “Alex Otti is Stealing My Projects to Take My Glory – Ikpeazu”—as false, misleading, and malicious attempts to cause confusion and attract online traffic.

“Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has since moved on to personal matters and has chosen to remain silent,” the statement read. “The only times he has responded publicly were to clarify specific issues raised officially by the present administration—and even that hasn’t happened in a long time.”

Ikpeazu warned that legal steps are being taken against those responsible for spreading the fabricated stories, including bloggers and individuals behind the viral misinformation. He urged the public to verify information before sharing, emphasizing that both creating and spreading falsehoods are punishable under the law.

Efforts are ongoing, in collaboration with security agencies, to identify the sources of the fake news. “Anyone using their platform to spread lies should be prepared to face the consequences,” the statement concluded.
