I’m Not Running For Senate; I’ll Retire After My Eight Years As Governor – Governor Otti

I?m not eyeing senate seat. I?ll retire after eight years as governor - Governor Otti

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has clarified that he has no intention of running for a Senate seat after completing what he referred to as his “eight-year” term in office. Speaking at a reception held in his honor by the Anambra Development Unions Association, Aba branch, Otti dismissed recent rumors about his political future, calling them “baseless” and “misleading.”

“When I finish my eight years here, I will retire. I have no plans to go to Abuja,” Otti emphasized, stressing that his priority remains serving the people of Abia State, not seeking another political office.

He also urged critics to stop spreading “falsehoods” and advocated for a political system that offers more opportunities for younger Nigerians. “We are no longer that young. Society is evolving, and the youth are stepping up. It’s time to give them the chance they deserve,” he stated.

The governor also addressed the issue of the 2011 dismissal of 154 civil servants, mostly teachers, in the state. He revealed that he had directed the head of service to review the circumstances of the dismissals and suggest possible solutions.

Otti noted that those still under the age of 65 might be re-engaged on a contract basis to help address the state’s teacher shortage. He condemned the dismissal, which was allegedly based on state of origin, as “unjust” and “illegal.”

“For those who are beyond the age limit, we will provide fair compensation,” he assured, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to justice, inclusion, and correcting the mistakes of previous governments.
