Israel Afeare, better known as Israel DMW, has called for the resignation of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, urging him to hand over power to Asue Ighodalo, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the last Edo governorship election.
In an Instagram post, Israel DMW claimed that the majority of Edo voters had chosen Ighodalo as their governor and criticized Okpebholo’s administration for causing unrest in the state since taking office.
“My dear Governor Okpebholo, I sincerely beg and advise you to resign and immediately hand over to Asue Ighodalo, who the majority of us Edolites truly voted for as our governor,” he wrote.
He further alleged that the “ancestors” were displeased with the election outcome, calling it an act of “pure robbery” and comparing it to Nigeria’s disputed June 12, 1993, presidential election.
“The entire state has had no peace since you took over. The ancestors are angry with the robbery that took place. Some heads are too strong to be cheated. Some robberies don’t succeed. We know you have connections to cover everything, but the truth will come out, like June 12,” he added.
Governor Okpebholo, who won the election under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has not yet responded to Israel DMW’s remarks. The Edo governorship election continues to be a contentious issue, with opposition voices questioning its legitimacy.
