Jimmy Carter, Former US President and Global Humanitarian, Dies at 100

Jimmy Carter, the 39th president of the United States and a lifelong advocate for peace and humanitarian efforts, has passed away at the age of 100.

A peanut farmer turned politician, Carter rose to prominence following the Watergate scandal and the Vietnam War, winning the presidency in 1976. Although his tenure was marked by challenges and ended after a single term, he redefined post-presidential life as a tireless global humanitarian.

Carter passed away peacefully on Sunday at his home in Plains, Georgia, where he had lived for most of his life. The Carter Center confirmed the news, stating, “Our founder, former US President Jimmy Carter, passed away this afternoon in Plains, Georgia.” He was surrounded by family at the time of his death, which came more than a year after entering hospice care.

Carter’s remarkable legacy extended far beyond the presidency. A Navy officer, businessman, author, woodworker, and global diplomat, he remained active into his 90s, building homes for the poor and conducting diplomatic missions. His enduring commitment to his faith and service was encapsulated in his own words:

“My faith demands — this is not optional — my faith demands that I do whatever I can, wherever I am, whenever I can, for as long as I can, with whatever I have to try to make a difference.”

Carter’s wife, Rosalynn, with whom he shared 77 years of marriage, passed away in November 2023 at the age of 96. The couple leaves behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and service that continues to inspire.
