The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Kano State has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) of instigating internal divisions within its ranks to weaken the party ahead of the 2027 elections. This follows the emergence of a faction led by former party spokesperson Musa Nuhu Yankaba, who has criticized prominent NNPP figures such as Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, alleging they do not represent the authentic NNPP. Yankaba’s group recently held a congress to elect new executives, directly challenging the party’s existing leadership.
In response, NNPP’s Kano State Chairman, Alhaji Hashimu Dungurawa, dismissed the faction’s claims, asserting that the party remains united and that those agitating for legitimacy are not genuine politicians. He emphasized that the party treats all its members equally and is prepared to handle such challenges.
This internal strife has led to concerns about the NNPP’s stability and its prospects in the upcoming 2027 elections. Political observers note that the party has experienced significant internal crises, including defections to the APC and public discontent from key figures within the Kwankwasiyya Movement, which is considered the ideological backbone of the NNPP
The NNPP’s challenges are occurring amidst broader political dynamics in Nigeria, where internal party conflicts have been known to influence electoral outcomes. As the 2027 elections approach, the ability of political parties to maintain internal cohesion will be crucial in determining their success at the polls.
