The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) on Friday swore in 1,009 Corps members for the 2025 Batch ‘A’ Stream I Orientation Course in Katsina State.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, Governor Dikko Radda, represented by his Chief of Staff, AbdulKadir Mamman Nasir, urged the new Corps members to avoid religious and political intolerance, cultism, and other anti-social behaviors throughout their service year. He reminded them to uphold the NYSC motto, Service and Humility, and to see their national service as a mark of honor.
“No matter the situation, see this call to serve as a recognition of your value to the country,” Nasir said, encouraging the Corps members to match or exceed the achievements of those who served before them.
Earlier, the NYSC Katsina State Coordinator, Ibrahim Sadu, thanked the state government for its continued support and appealed for additional assistance in upgrading camp facilities, including more hostels, lecture tents, and plastic chairs.
Sadu confirmed that 1,009 Corps members had registered for the orientation course — 636 males and 373 females — and praised their enthusiasm and adaptation to camp life. He highlighted the importance of the three-week training, which includes leadership exercises, physical drills, lectures on civic duties, and cultural activities.
He also emphasized the importance of the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, encouraging Corps members to take full advantage of the training to build self-reliance and reduce dependence on white-collar jobs.
“Skill acquisition today is not just an option; it’s a necessity,” Sadu said.
