The Chairman of Okehi Local Government Area in Kogi State, Amoka Monday, has announced a curfew in the area due to security concerns, following a ban on political rallies and unregulated public gatherings.
In a statement signed by the chairman on Monday, he explained that the curfew was necessary to maintain peace and order in accordance with directives from the Kogi State Government and the state’s Commissioner of Police.
The curfew, effective immediately, restricts movement and gatherings in designated areas. The statement warned that anyone found loitering or assembling in restricted zones without proper clearance would be arrested and prosecuted.
Monday emphasized that the safety and stability of residents is his top priority, adding that any actions threatening public peace would not be tolerated. “We will not allow anything to disturb the peace and stability of our communities,” he said.
The chairman clarified that the curfew is a preventive measure aimed at avoiding potential security threats. He reassured the public that the local government is working closely with security agencies to monitor the situation and ensure law and order.
The curfew and ban on political rallies are part of broader efforts by the Kogi State Government to maintain peace, prevent misinformation, and ensure that all public gatherings are held legally.
Residents are urged to comply with the directive and cooperate with security agencies to ensure public safety. The administration also asked the public to remain calm and continue their daily activities within the boundaries of the law.
