The Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin and former U.S. President Donald Trump will speak by phone on Tuesday, March 18, to discuss ongoing efforts to negotiate a ceasefire in Ukraine.
Trump first announced the call, stating that “a lot of work” had been done between the U.S. and Russia to address the Ukraine conflict. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov later confirmed the conversation, but declined to specify the topics of discussion.
Last week, Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, visited Moscow to present a U.S.-Ukrainian ceasefire plan, which includes a proposed 30-day pause in hostilities. Putin has expressed willingness to consider the ceasefire but has raised concerns about its implementation, which he intends to address during the call with Trump.
This phone conversation comes amid growing global focus on the Ukraine war and ongoing diplomatic efforts to find a resolution.
