The Chairman of the Labour Party in Ogun State, Chief Samuel Olaolu, has declared the party’s strong resolve to unseat the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration of President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during a press conference held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday, Olaolu cautioned President Tinubu not to be misled by assurances of an easy re-election, stating that Nigerians are increasingly disillusioned with the current state of governance.
“Many Nigerians are fed up with rising insecurity, hunger, and the deteriorating economy,” Olaolu said. “They are eagerly waiting for 2027 to send the APC government packing.”
The Labour Party, he emphasized, is gaining momentum and ready to assume leadership at the federal level. “There’s a growing desire across the country for a Labour Party government in 2027,” he asserted.
Referencing the recent Supreme Court ruling that affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman as the legitimate head of the Labour Party’s Caretaker Committee, Olaolu described the decision as a turning point for the party. “With that judgment, Labour Party stands as the only viable opposition in Nigeria today,” he said.
Criticizing the internal crisis within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Olaolu noted that the opposition space has become fragmented, but Labour remains intact. “The ruling forces have tried to destabilize both the PDP and our party,” he said, “but divine intervention through the Supreme Court ruling has kept us strong and focused.”
Reflecting on the 2023 presidential election, Olaolu stated: “They called us poor men tweeting from our rooms, but we still garnered over 6 million votes. We believe we won, and in 2027, we are confident we’ll triple that support.”
He further revealed that disillusioned members of other parties, especially the PDP, are now joining Labour due to growing dissatisfaction with their own leadership.
On the state of the nation, he said, “With worsening insecurity and economic hardship, Nigerians know the APC has failed. The Labour Party is ready to deliver a new direction and rebuild the country.”
Highlighting the party’s future plans, Olaolu emphasized the importance of unity and internal rebuilding under the leadership of Nenadi Usman. “The caretaker committee is working diligently to unify the party, ensure inclusivity, and integrate all committed members into our activities,” he explained.
“We are moving forward with clarity and a renewed purpose,” he concluded, “and the Labour Party stands ready to offer the leadership that will steer Nigeria out of its current challenges.”
