Lagos Clears Illegal Buildings On Lekki Coastal Road

The Lagos State Government, through the Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development (MWID), has intensified enforcement at the Okunde Bluewater Scheme along Lekki Coastal Road, targeting illegal occupants and makeshift structures.

Friday’s operation, led by Commissioner Ekundayo Alebiosu, focused on dismantling newly erected shanties in the area. Alebiosu explained that the exercise was part of ongoing efforts to prevent the reoccupation of government land cleared last year.

“This land was cleared late last year. It’s no longer business as usual. Any attempt to rebuild illegal structures here will be swiftly dealt with,” he said, stressing that such developments pose environmental and security risks and violate the state’s Mega City Master Plan.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transforming the area into a world-class Bluewater Scheme and coastal road network, adding that regular monitoring and enforcement would continue to safeguard the cleared land.

“The Ministry remains focused on securing and developing all waterfronts in Lagos in line with the vision of a clean, safe, and globally competitive Mega City,” Alebiosu added.
